when my parents raised me by
the golden rule and
love thy neighbor
and take up the cross and
follow the ways of Jesus
I didn’t know the message would sink into
my bones and sew itself
onto my face
in the form of a mask
in twenty-twenty
but I’m shocked
(you ‘d be able to tell but I’m
masked and it’s hard to
see shock on my face)
at how many
people who claim to
follow the ways of Jesus
and the golden rule and
love thy neighbor
raise hell on earth
and cry “my freedom!”
rather than take up
the rather light-weight
