the day after
the first time I marched
to the insistent persistent consistent
beat that
Black Lives Should Matter
in America in 2020
I woke with a sore throat and
hoarse voice
with a thick tongue and
dry lips and
my pronouns
name
phone number
bold lettered on the
bright white of my arm

say his name
George Floyd
say her name
Breonna Taylor

the day after
her murder is forgotten I learned
the undeniable inconceivable unbreathable
truth that
Black Lives Don’t Matter
in Kentucky in 2020
that I’ll forever have a sore throat and
hoarse voice
with a thick tongue and
dry lips and
scream her name
scream her name
scream her name
